In a breakfast rut? Do you mindlessly pour breakfast cereal and milk into a bowl? That’s okay—as long as you make a nutritious morning meal part of your morning routine.
In fact, a morning meal is well known to boost productivity and concentration and, for kids, to be important for learning. And because breakfast takes the edge off morning hunger and deters late-morning nibbling, studies show that breakfast is a great strategy for weight control, too.
To celebrate Better Breakfast Month, think out of the cereal box.
- Toasted waffle sandwich: toasted freezer waffles, filled with lean ham, Cheddar shreds, and apple or tomato slices
- Fresh breakfast salad: greens tossed with chopped Canadian bacon, chopped pecans, and maple syrup vinaigrette (apple cider vinegar, oil, and a splash of maple syrup), then topped with toast croutons
- Breakfast in a cup: chopped seasonal fruit, topped with yogurt and granola, in a plastic “to go” cup
