Live in a family of snackers? Likely so. On average, 20 to 30 percent of calories consumed by Americans come from snacking—and about 75 percent of us snack!
Snacking itself is okay when it fills in the day’s nutrition gaps—and if you don’t overdo on calories, sugars, or fat.
For everybody in your family, smart snacks from your kitchen are very visible, effortless, good-for-you, and flavorful, too.
- Keep fruit on the counter. That way, whole fruit’s in easy view.
- Stock smart single-serve, ready-to-go snacks: small raisin boxes, baby carrots, juice, fruit cups.
- Wash ’em up. Get veggies washed, cut-up, and ready to eat from the fridge.
- Make them visible. Put fruit and vegetable snacks in see-through containers or plastic bags. That way, your family can spot the smart snacks.
- Keep smart snacks within kids’ easy reach. Put chips, cookies, and other “sometimes” foods away from impulse eaters.
