Heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart is unable to pump a sufficient volume of blood to supply the body’s oxygen needs. High-output failure results from intolerable increases in oxygen demand, often  resulting  from  thyrotoxicosis,  beri-beri,  and other conditions and does not reflect underlying heart disease.
