Do high costs cramp your fitness style? You don’t have to spend hundreds on gym memberships or equipment to stay it. All you may need is a good pair of walking shoes. To move on the cheap:
- Turn household objects into workout weights. Start by weight-lifting 15-ounce cans of food. Work up to gallon milk jugs (8 pounds).
- Walk rather than drive if your destination is close. You’ll save on gas money, too. Get a small daypack to carry things easily.
- Pump up the tires in your (or your kid’s) bike. Get rolling instead of buying a stationary cycle or fancy mountain bike.
- Dig, plant, and care for a vegetable garden. You’ll exercise and save on and savor a little home-grown produce.
