If the rhythm moves you, dance! You don’t need to know fancy steps or have a partner. Even with two left feet you get the health-promoting benefits and the fun.

Especially if you get your heart pumping, dancing is great for heart and overall health. Sixty minutes of continuous dancing may burn 200 calories or more.

Dance your way to fitness sometime this week.

  • Go line dancing. No partner needed, just move with the group.
  • Sign up for ethnic, ballroom, or swing dancing. Find an adult ed class nearby.
  • Dance to your own music. Just put on you favorite music (R&B, hip hop, jazz, whatever); move to the beat. To motivate yourself, indulge in a new CD.
  • Enjoy a dance class for singles. Try aerobic, tap, modern dance— at the gym, YMCA, or other community center.
  • Find a “chair dancing” class—a yoga-type workout using a chair for balance.
  • Skip the movies this weekend; go dancing instead!
